As tempting as it is to hunker down indoors in January, even streaming bingers need to come up for air once in a while. With so much natural beauty on our doorstep, it would be a shame not to venture out and see what’s happening in and around Burlington.

]]>Forgoing certain foods (and beverages) and recommitting to fitness goals is a virtuous New Year’s tradition. So is abandoning all those promises within a few weeks and returning to the comfort of life’s regular programming. Luckily for us, living in Burlington means we can have our post-holiday cake and eat it, too, in the form of outdoor recreation and takeaway culinary treats.
You can make positive lifestyle changes without depriving yourself of joy.
If you’re a resident of Paradigm you already know about the spectacular outdoor spaces that offering the opportunity to step outdoors, mingle with fellow residents and visitors, and enjoy unfettered access to natural light all winter long. The floor-to-ceiling windows in our condo units deliver plenty of the limited seasonal sunshine indoors when it’s too cold or windy to venture out.
This winter, pledge to try skiing on the escarpment at Glen Eden , taking a winter walk along the lakeshore, or a tranquil nature hike on the trails at Mount Nemo, or The Royal Botanical Gardens to make the most of everything our area offers.
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Cocoa Bean!
Reward yourself for time spent outdoors with a steaming cup of hot chocolate (or whatever your pleasure). Burlington offers plenty of options; most of these shops are west of James St., within a marshmallow toss of Spencer Smith Park and the Brant Street Pier:
Great Sounds at BPAC
For live music enthusiasts, classic rock is on the agenda at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Native son, David Wilcox lights up the stage (Fri. Jan. 19, 8:00 p.m.) with a set list of time-tested favourites that always sound fresh. The Montreal-born singer-guitarist-songwriter debuted during the folk-rock era with the iconic Canadian band Great Speckled Bird and released his first solo album, Out of the Woods, in 1977. He’ll be sampling hits from that and 1983’s My Eyes Keep Me in Trouble, featuring one of his signature tunes, Riverboat Fantasy.
Legendary Detroit rocker Bob Seger has stopped touring but that live performance void is filled by Against the Wind: The Ultimate Bob Seger Experience (Sat. Jan. 20, 7:30 p.m.).
Even More to Enjoy in January
The Land Acknowledgement or As You Like It is a hit theatrical production coming to BPAC at the end of January for seven performances over five days. Young, Indigenous playwright Cliff Cardinal is behind this re-crafting of Shakespeare’s play, As You Like It, in the context of our present day reconciliation process. Click here for dates and times.
The Royal Botanical Gardens is open all winter but check the website for seasonal hours of operation (the popular Rock Chapel lookout trail is closed until spring).
Winter Wonders: Thursdays to Sundays through Jan. 7, Hendrie Park. Described on the RBG website as “A unique outdoor evening experience, guides visitors along Hendrie Park’s picturesque pathways adorned with charming festive lights, interactive installations and magical displays that tell the stories of unique winter wonders. Stroll through our breathtaking garden to the rhythm of festive music while indulging in the warm tastes and fragrances of the holiday season.”
Be sure to catch a ride on the RBG Express, a round-trip train ride through the park. Admission charges apply.

]]>While we anxiously await the first sporadic gusts of snow, plans for the Holiday Season are afoot. Soon after the clock rolls back on November 5th, Burlington becomes a waterfront City of Lights.
The post November Begins on a Sombre Note, but Holiday Lights are on the Horizon. first appeared on Molinaro Group.
]]>World events have a blunt way of putting things into perspective. This will be top of mind as we honour our forbearers on the 11th for their ultimate sacrifice, and as we begin to hunker down for winter.
Even though it gets colder and darker scene at this time of year, Burlington’s natural gifts of location and community spirit will get us through.
Optimism comes naturally here at the Molinaro Group. We’re moving ahead with construction of Paradigm’s Grand Finale on Fairview St. , the two new towers soon to inject another level of dynamic activity into Midtown and close the loop on the master plan. Street-level shops and office space will feature prominently in the final stage of our long-standing vision of a self-contained, multi-tower, lifestyle condominium with resort-calibre amenities. Positive synergies with the neighbouring GO transit hub and the surrounding community are deeply knitted and strengthening with time.
As for the cold-and-flu, er, HOLIDAY season, count on Burlington to offer the antidote. A day of gratitude, holiday shopping, abundant cultural events, and the annual Festival of Lights are boldfaced items on our November calendar. Make a note of them on yours.
Burlington Festival of Lights: Nov. 24-Jan. 8, 4PM to Midnight daily; extended hours (all day & night) on Christmas eve, Christmas Day, Orthodox Christmas, New Years Eve at Spencer Smith Park. A defining feature of our town, the festival illuminates the waterfront and brings a big jolt of seasonal joy. Celebrating 28 years, it’s among our most cherished annual traditions and attracts local sightseers as well as visitors from throughout the Golden Horseshoe. Stroll through for a close look at the themed exhibits or take it all in from your vehicle while driving along Lakeshore Road. Access to the park is free.
Be sure to catch a ride on the RBG Express, a round-trip train ride through the park. Admission charges apply.

]]>Summer 2023 in Burlington demonstrated again that it’s among the best places to live in the entire country. How was your summer? Ours was about growing! And we’re looking ahead to a spectacular autumn.
The post Burlington’s Summer Winning Streak Continues into Fall first appeared on Molinaro Group.
]]>Seasons: they’re one of the best things about living in Canada in general, and Burlington, in particular.
The onset of Fall means cooler weather is coming and it’s time to reach for jackets and sweaters if you’re heading out to see autumn colours. The peak time for this year’s leaf-a-palooza is tough to pinpoint but the first half of October should bring noticeable changes to the forest canopy.
Later in the month, the Niagara Escarpment should be ablaze with swaths of red, orange and yellow. Lucky for us, prime sightseeing spots are only a short drive away. Among the best is Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Plan ahead now to book a chairlift ride for an aerial view of the fall tapestry from the top of the escarpment. Rides are available on weekends throughout October including the Thanksgiving long weekend. Click here for details.
Among the other top locations for autumn leaf-watching is Burlington’s own Mount Nemo. The gentle terrain is ideal for families. Hike all or part of the 8.6 km loop for great views of the city and forests. Feel free to bring your pet (on leash). Other recommended options are Dundas Valley Conservation Area, and the Chedoke Radial Trail, about 30 minutes away in Hamilton. No matter which one you choose, you can’t go wrong.
Good rainfalls this Summer were a boon to operations at the Urban Farm on Brant St., proudly supported for a third year by the Molinaro Group, which contributed the vacant downtown property in 2021, and additional materials for each growing season.
Supporting the Burlington Food Bank, the farm produced another bumper crop of herbs and vegetables for distribution to local families who are experiencing food insecurity. The final 2023 total is still TBC, but it’s expected to match or exceed the 1,600 pounds of produce harvested in 2022. We offer our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed again this year.
For Molinaro Group President, Vince Molinaro, it’s part of his late father’s legacy.
“Being based here in Burlington for the last 20-some years, we firmly believe in supporting the community, something my father (Domenic) always did and instilled in us. We continue to do it today, it’s great. It makes us feel great and it helps a lot of people,” he says.
Year One at the Farm was a steep learning curve, explains Vince. That inaugural season was a test to see how well the hay bale growing medium would work to grow vegetables and herbs. “They can be put anywhere, so the ground doesn’t have to be tilled,” says Vince. “There’s no need for underground utilities and the bales break down and work better over time.”
With growing veggies in mind, Halloween is coming up and stacks of pumpkins are appearing all over town. Local grocery stores have plenty, but it’s prime time to visit local farms to select your orange gourd(s) for display, decoration and/or cooking.
Pick your own at Hutchinson Farm (6202 Walkers Line), 20 minutes by car from our midtown Burlington location at Paradigm Grand. The Farm is just north of Mount Nemo Conservation Area so make a day of it, hiking and pumpkin-picking. Don’t forget to grab some heirloom garlic while you’re there. Check their website for business hours.
Here are some of the other highlights on the October events calendar:
Every cultural institution in town is hosting events during the Culture Days festivities with the focus on, or close to, the waterfront. The 14th annual event is a showcase for local artists and creators of all descriptions to share their talent, culture and skills with the public, free of charge. Stroll past temporary art projects installed along the Waterfront Trail; a schedule of interactive events will help you gain a better understanding of the creative process through the eyes of fellow residents wishing to entertain and enlighten you.
WALKING THROUGH THE FIRE Indigenous Collaborations featuring Sultans of String & Friends: October 22 at 7 pm, Burlington Performing Arts Centre. This is a truly, one-of-a-kind event, and uniquely Canadian. Join the JUNO-nominees, Sultans of String, in concert with outstanding Indigenous performers from across the country for this one-night-only celebration. Click here for more details and ticket info.
FRANKENSTEIN: A Living Comic Book: October 31, 7:00 pm
What would Halloween be without the gothic legend of the half-man, half-monster? A tale that never gets old, it continues to inspire writers, performers and other artists to create a new twist on the classic. BPAC is host to the playful horror in this family-friendly stage show on Halloween eve.
Fall living is better in Burlington! Enjoy!

]]>Molinaro Group has always valued the importance of Joseph Brant Hospital to the city of Burlington. That’s why they’ve consistently supported the hospital’s fundraising activities, including a $1million donation made in 2013 toward the hospital’s redevelopment and expansion fundraising campaign.
The Molinaro Group is once again prioritizing the hospital by partnering with Angelo Paletta and TNG Exotics & Limited Editions to present HorsePower 4 Hospital, on September 23. This is a one-of-a-kind car show featuring more than 50 exotic and limited-edition vehicles.
It’s a free, family-friendly event running from 10 am to 2 pm, in front of the Art Gallery of Burlington. Last year’s event raised more than $144,000 in support of Joseph Brant Hospital, and the organizers hope to surpass this amount in 2023.
“Angelo and I are incredibly excited to be hosting this event in support of Joseph Brant Hospital,” said Vince Molinaro, President, Molinaro Group. “It will be a great day of fun for the whole family, an amazing showcase of horsepower, and it will all go toward a great cause that will positively impact our community.”
Molinaro Group has been involved in many endeavours that support the people of Burlington and its communities.
Molinaro Group has supported the growth of Urban Farm in downtown Burlington for the last three years. The community farm produces fresh vegetables and herbs that go toward local food charities, helping to ensure greater food security for members of the community. The Urban Farm produced more than 1,000 pounds of fresh produce last year, thanks to the efforts of the people who tend to the gardens.
Molinaro Group donated land and materials, including hay bales (in which the fruits and vegetables grow), a water pump, a sea can (or shipping container) for storage, and many other tools to help get the Urban Farm started and keep it thriving.
STEPS Public Art is a Canadian-based public art organization that uses unique art initiatives to promote dynamic, inclusive, and resilient communities. Its I HeArt Main Street program collaborates with Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) across Ontario to engage in public artist initiatives and paid artist opportunities that promote local culture, vibrant spaces, and main street recovery. Burlington’s downtown took part in the program with the installation of new murals that celebrate the community’s vibrancy and resilience.
The Molinaro Group sponsored the creation of four original murals throughout downtown Burlington. The most recent installation, located at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Lakeshore Road, comes from the well-known artist Kelsey Montague, and features five unique images from Burlington hidden within its design. Last year, Canadian artist Chris Perez, helped by Burlington’s Aiden Kenny, created a bright floral mural composition at 404 John Street, near the north of Lakeshore Road.
In February 2023, following a three-year hiatus, the Carpenter Hospice Gala returned to the Burlington Convention Centre. The gala celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Paradise Island-themed event, which included a live steel band, as well as silent and live auctions packed with numerous amazing prizes.
Molinaro Group has donated more than $100,000 to the Carpenter Hospice over the years. Several members of the team attended the event, including Vince and Tina Molinaro, who participated in the live auction. The gala was a great success, raising more than $160,000 for the Carpenter Hospice.
The Carpenter Hospice provides residential-based care to people in the last stages of their lives, as well as community-based programs for people dealing with grief or a life-limiting illness. The hospice ensures that is residents spend their final days together with loved ones in a peaceful, comfortable, and meaningful environment. The Carpenter Hospice has been an integral part of Burlington since 2002, thanks to the donations of Molinaro Group and other generous benefactors.

]]>June is the Month of Long Days and Burlington excels at getting the most out of gorgeous, sunset-bathed evenings on the waterfront and beyond. Here at the Molinaro Group we’re busy prepping the site for Paradigm Grand’s Finale, the transformative final stage of our iconic Paradigm lifestyle condo project on Fairview St. It will be one of our busiest seasons ever, but our residents and employees will still be in the midst of everything that’s going on around us.
Movement is the theme at this time of the year. While we move the heavy equipment, Burlington residents are hitting the streets, local trails, outdoor attractions, and pouring their energy into good causes. One of the early premier events of the season happens on the evening of Saturday, June 10th. The Moon in June Road Race is a chance to run, jog or walk to fund-raise for a great cause. Register now for a 1K, 5K or 10K walk or run in support of Radius Child & Youth Services. Read here about what this organization does to support abused and neglected children in our area, and more about the event’s 30-year history.
All ages are welcome (kids under 8 accompanied by an adult). The event traces a flat course through downtown, beginning and ending at the waterfront. No pressure; choose the distance and pace that works for you knowing that all entry fees go directly to the charity. With luck, the night will be capped with a glowing Lake Ontario sunset. Consider it a warm-up for the Canada Day 5K/10K Race at Spencer Smith Park on July 1.
You won’t get much of an argument from anyone in Burlington in response to this statement: The Sound of Music Festival is the city’s biggest event of the year. Four consecutive days of live outdoor music featuring a cross-section of classic rock, pop, folk and blues begin Thursday, June 15 and end on Father’s Day, June 18th. Spencer Smith Park becomes a heaving mass of happily grooving humanity, soaked in sunscreen and basking in the sounds of bands, new and old, performing their past and current hits. Click here to see the complete lineup.
More than just music, the Festival appeals to all ages with food vendors, the Streetfest, a parade and the Midway featuring classic carnival rides. The kicker; all events are FREE, courtesy of the volunteer staff and local business sponsors.
Here’s a sampling of what else is happening in June on a recurring basis:
Burlington Centre Lions Farmer’s Market in the Centre parking lot on Friday, June 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., continuing Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month. Shop for locally-sourced fresh produce, bread and other food products in support of Lions Club projects.
National Indigenous Peoples Day, Wednesday, June 21 at Spencer Smith Park. The event schedule is TBA.
Go to the Burlington Events Calendar for a complete daily listing of times and details.
Everywhere you look, gardens are in bloom, shade trees are filled out and grass has turned that shade of emerald green that signals a healthy blend of moisture, sun, cool nights and warmer days. Where better than at a local horticultural landmark to see nature in its full, lovingly maintained glory:
Royal Botanical Gardens
June highlights include:
Iconic Plant Tours: Iris and Peonies of Laking Garden, June 1, Laking Garden (1221 Spring Gardens Rd.)
Not Just a Birding Club, June 3, 2023, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Paddling in Paradise: Spring Canoe Tours, Arboretum (16 Old Guelph Road)
Discovery at the Fishway, Sunday, June 18; 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.
Some events recur throughout the month. Visit the RBG website for full details and daily listings.
It’s a quieter time for the Burlington Performing Arts Centre as it prepares to launch its new 2023 season with a formal, members-only event at the end of May.
Visit the BPAC website for a current list of event dates and ticket information.
As our company President, Vince Molinaro is fond of saying, “life is better in Burlington.”
